Spring is springing

Snowdrop season has arrived in Somerset and the nearby Forde Abbey is opening its gates this weekend for you to admire their stunning display. Alternatively, a brisk 15 min walk from the steps of the hut takes you to my latest discovery, a woodland that is currently completely carpeted in snowdrops. Come and stay and then you can go and see this for yourself - a very uplifting sight at this grey, soggy time of year.

Celebrating Somerset's Cider

Wassailing is a Somerset festival that takes place in January to celebrate the bounty from last year's cider trees and helps to guarantee a good harvest for the year ahead. And where did I learn this interesting fact...... From, my now favourite new book, 'The Almanac: A Seasonal Guide to 2018' which is rammed full of fascinating snippets. So whilst nibbling on your cheese & biccies and supping your cider take a look at this book to find out about the constellations, tides, moon, sunrise & sunset, birds & wildlife you can expect to experience during your stay here.

Toast & Marmalade

This year's seville oranges are in the shops and I have been busy turning them into Scottish Marmalade - though only really Scottish because of my birthright and the provenance of the recipe - thanks Mum! To add authenticity, I did consider using Strathmore but decided that was perhaps a little excessive...... Mr Day thinks it's delicious but come and judge for yourself. A jar will be provided for your toast when you come and spend the night. Yum yum

Romantic Surprises

A very lovely lady treated the very special, and very lucky, man in her life to a package of birthday surprises this weekend including a stay here in the hut as well as secretly dropping off in advance this amazing basket of treats and goodies. This display of romance was spectacular but surely not impossible for others to copy. Perhaps we all need to follow this example, revive our inner romantic and do something special for our loved ones...... And if anyone wanted to have a similar basket of loveliness on arrival then I'm more than happy to facilitate - just let me know when you make your booking. It may be cold and grey outside but inside the hut it's super toasty and all ready for more

Winter Glamping

Winter camping is the 'in thing' at the mo. Apparently it's all about reconnecting with nature whilst braving the elements. But rather than roughing it, why not have a night 'camping' in our shepherds hut with full mod cons where from the comfort of your bed you can observe the sun, moon, stars & weather, recharge after any festive excesses and give some thought to the 2018 perhaps..... Don't delay..... First week in Jan is proving to be my busiest yet - who would have thought it! Happy New Year by the way!
