Seasonal Somerset Sparkles
There are always plenty of reasons to book a stay at the Stocklinch Shepherds Hut but at this time of year when the sun goes down it's all about the hundreds of twinkly lights here in Somerset.
Carnival season is already well underway but there is still a chance to catch this truly unique illuminated experience in Taunton on Saturday 20th October. Juggernaut sized floats festooned with a zillion light bulbs, snake past you with their entertanment - it is a complete sensory overload!
Neighbouring village, Hinton St George, will be celebrating Punkie Night on Thursday 25th October at 6pm. Historically this 'event' was all about the women and children of the village setting off with their carved mangold lanterns to find their menfolk lost on the way home from the nearby annual Chiselborough Fair...... This uniqely Somerset tradition lives on and you too can take part in this English folklore by joining the village procession swinging your 'Jack'o'lantern' singing punkie songs.
A fireworks spectacular is planned for Saturday 3rd November at the Forde Abbey House and Gardens with music, lights, smoke effects, entertainment, guest performers and of course fireworks and bonfires - this promises to be a 'son et lumiere' extraodinaire and the like of which Somerset has never seen before!
Like I said, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the bright lights of Somerset this autumn - I look forward to welcoming you to the Stocklinch Shepherds Hut.
