Christmas Newsletter 2019

Festive glamping is in full swing here - the decorations are up, the stollen cookies are baked, the cider is mulling and the advent calendar is counting down to the big day. Ho ho ho! We've had a busy autumn season with lots of happy glampers coming to stay with us here in Somerset for all sorts of reasons - grandparents visiting grandchildren, escapee parents sneaking off for a couple of delicious child free nights away, special birthdays & anniversaries, and many of you just looking for a spot of well earned R&R! Thankyou for coming! We've loved sharing our corner of Somerset with you and look forward to hopefully seeing you here again sometime soon!
Winning an award in the Glamping & Alternative Accommodation category at this year's prestigious Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards was most unexpected and amazing!
We faced competition from 133 other top tourism businesses across the area so to have achieved this Award is a fantastic result for us and a huge honour. Whilst we absolutely love reading your reviews and obviously your feedback is invaluable and much appreciated, getting recognition at this level is such a real boost and motivation for us. We have to say though that by far the loveliest thing about winning this Award have been all of the kind comments from guests, friends, family, villagers, advisors etc, etc who have been part of our 'journey' - thank you so much because we couldn't have done it without you!
Glamping isn't just for the summer months! January remains one of our busiest months with lots of you retreating here for some post festive-season recuperation, hunkering down being cosy in the Hut, keeping toasty round the fire pit and taking a well earned soak in the woodfired hot tub. But if you're looking for something a little bit more energetic then the walks from the Hut at this time of year are stunning, The Barrington Boarwill give you a very warm welcome, Barrington Court NT will be keeping it's doors open over the winter months and Perry's Cider have had a bumper crop this autumn so there's plenty of cider to be drunk! The calendar is already beginning to fill up with bookings for next year so don't delay!
This being "Ciderland", there are several Wassailing events taking place in local cider orchards throughout January. Evil spirits, winter slumbers, fancy dress, and lots of mulled cider are all key parts in this ancient West Country cider festival. Traditionally songs are sung to the apple trees, toast is soaked cider and tied to the branches, people drink to their health and cider is poured onto their roots and sometimes a shotgun is fired into the orchard to frighten away evil spirits! Alternatively you could do your own Wassail here in the Hut's orchard - pop over the hill to Paul Jessop at Barrington Pottery to buy these gorgeous cider beakers and help yourself to the Hut supplies of Perry's cider and mulling spices - happy to give you the song sheet but no shotgun!
We are extremely proud of all that Somerset has to offer and we love sharing it with our glamping guests so if you're stuck for a Christmas gift for your loved one then why not treat them to a stay here - it makes for a very memorable and happily received pressie! Please get in touch to buy a Gift Voucher.
Have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We very much look forward to welcoming you here in 2020. With our very best wishes to you, Matt and Fiona.
