frequently asked questions

Where is the nearest shop?

Previously, I have been guilty of sending guests to the supermarkets in Ilminster, but no more! An extremely pleasant, short walk over the hill to Shepton Beauchamp brings you to Shepton Stores, Kitchen and Deli filled with lots of local foodie loveliness as well as the essentials. Not only do you avoid using your car, but you also benefit from the walk and you support a local business - the perfect combo!

Where can we eat out?

We have 2 pubs both within very easy walking distance of the hut - The Barrington Boar in Barrington and The Duke of York in Shepton Beauchamp. Both serve excellent super tasty meals using local ingredients where possible as well as local beers and ciders on draught.

Is there a nice walk from the hut?

Yes! Click here for full details - Walk About Stocklinch - it's definitely worth the effort!

Where do you recommend for Tea and Cakes?

Walkable from the hut are 3 options. Barrington Court NT Tea Room though you do need to pay or use your membership card to get to this tearoom but it is well worth it for the views from the the grand dining room looking out across the lily pond. For something a bit less formal try the charming and friendly cafe at the back of Shepton Stores Kitchen and Deli. And for something set in beautiful landscaped grounds head to The Greenhouse on the Dillington Estate. For other ideas take a look at my recommendations on the Explore: Food and Drink page
