OUR STORY

We are Matt and Fiona Day and we fell in love with this part of the world back in 1997 when we discovered Somerset on a cycling holiday in the Quantock Hills. And it was on this holiday that the idea of running our own tourism business was first dreamt up. We finally made the move in 2000 and have been living in Somerset ever since. However, it was not until we moved to Stocklinch in 2012 with our 2 boys that the opportunity to start our own tourism business became possible and even then it took us 5 years to get the Stocklinch Shepherd's Hut finally open for business!

But thanks to Matt's brother, Jim, carpenter extraordinaire & perfectionist, our hut is very unique - bespoke and hand built with meticulous attention to detail. It has a calm, relaxing feel, and is a great space to chill out in and we are very pleased to be able to share this with you. With some very clever design, in a space measuring just 7' by 15' there is somewhere to sleep, eat, cook and wash - amazing!

One of the very first things we did when we moved into The Old Post Office was to plant hundreds of trees in our field so you'll find the hut in a very private spot, tucked away in about a third of an acre of orchard, surrounded by willows and other native trees & hedging. However we were careful not to plant anything that would get in the way of the wonderful uninterrupted views across the fields looking towards the Blackdown, Brendon and Quantock Hills with distant glimpses of Exmoor.

We aim to ensure you have everything you need to enjoy a relaxing stay and we are only to happy to help if there is something you would like us to organise for you beforehand or during your visit to make your time here even better!

Beautiful, cosy and warm hut surrounded by stunning views. Our stay was perfect, Fiona was a wonderful host and very helpful when I arranged additional surprises for my partner, but provided us with privacy during our stay. Would highly recommend staying here, lovely hut and location, with lots of lovely extras and an outstanding host.

Wow! This place is just perfect, quiet and secluded. It has been built to a very high standard and is well equipped with a bunch of the basics (tea, salt, pepper, oil etc). Lovely to get fresh bread, milk and jam provided on arrival. Bed is super comfortable and the views over the countryside are lovely. Matt and Fiona provided a very warm welcome but left me in peace. Can’t wait to return!

The hut was more than we could have hoped for. Clean, compact but so cleverly designed to include everything you could need and set in the most idyllic setting, surrounded by beauty and an abundance of wildlife. Fiona and Matt were perfect hosts. We had such a wonderful weekend celebrating our wedding anniversary and have come home feeling recharged and refreshed. We would definitely return should we get the chance.
