Twitching

Whilst discussing important village business #potholes at a neighbours the other day, I got very distracted by the huge amount of activity going on at the bird feeder outside their kitchen window. So thinking that our visitors might appreciate the opportunity to do a spot of bird watching, I have revived and replenished my neglected bird feeder and positioned it in full view from the comfort of the bed. Let the twitching begin!

Chocoholics of Stocklinch

Thanks to a sneaky 'behind the scenes' peaky whilst at Barrington Court NT the other day, I can confirm that the Easter Bunny has been super organised this year with his deliveries. Locked away in a top secret location, stacked floor to ceiling, are a staggering 2621 Easter eggs in readiness for the egg hunts taking place this weekend. The gates open at 11 tomorrow morning....... Come and spend the night here and join the stampede of Stocklinch chocoholics heading over the hill tomorrow morning!

Blue Moon

No need for torches on your yomp across the fields, back from the pub this weekend, as your way home will be illuminated by the silvery light of a full moon. (Interesting fact: unusually this is the second full moon for March making it a Blue Moon.) You just need the weather to cooperate and for the clouds to blow over or you might end up disappearing down one of Stocklinch's many badger holes! Best play safe, take a torch just in case.... Happy Easter weekend!

Lions & Lambs

"March comes in like a lion, and goes out like a lamb." Don't wish to tempt fate, but we've got beautiful blue skies down here in Stocklinch this evening. Lovely.....

back for more!

Tonight's returnees were treated to a wee thank you..... Here's what they said last time..."Arrived just before dark on a rainy evening. When we got into the hut it was nice and toasty and Fiona showed us where to find everything including freshly baked apple cake which was delicious! On the second night we braved a walk through footpaths to the Barrington Boar. Once we got back to the hut and in out of the rain it felt nice and cosy. Everything you need for a relaxing couple of nights away!" Here's hoping today's offering meets with their approval....

Green Fingers

Sticking with the 'arrival of spring' theme, for any 'green fingered' types, itching to get going in the garden, this Saturday, 22 top local nurseries and growers will be pitching up, selling their finest at East Lambrook Manor Gardens, a stones throw from Stocklinch. Spend tomorrow night here recharging your batteries in readiness for the cut and thrust of your shopping trip. Restraint will be your biggest challenge! Happy gardening🐝🌻

It's official!

It's official! As of yesterday, winter ended and spring began and with the clock change this Sunday you've got every reason to be getting out and about and embracing this new season. So ignore those gloomy doomy weather forecasters and head down to the Stocklinch Shepherd's Hut to enjoy a spot of spring watching!

Mini Beastie

This weekend's 'mini beastie' meant a change of plan for our visitors - they missed out on this winter wonderland but hopefully when they do eventually make it we'll be able to welcome them to a sunnier, warmer and springier Stocklinch!

Mind the gap!

Directions to Stocklinch Shepherd's Hut: Take the Hamstone Line and get off at Barrington Court then it's a short walk up the lane, over the hill and down through the fields. Don't forget to bring your wellies! Thank you to www.somersetroutes.co.uk for creating this alternative 'underground' - considerably less crowded, stressful, hectic and altogether much pleasanter than the London version!

Sweet dreams!

Friday 16th March is World Sleep Day and is a celebration of all things sleep related - as someone who loves her sleep, this is definitely my kind of day! We've not got anybody booked in for tomorrow night so why not come and celebrate it here and enjoy a restful and relaxing snooze in our super comfy bed? Sweet dreams ZZzzzzzz..........

Birthday Boy

More surprise celebrations this weekend with the birthday boy being treated to a day with www.alexpoleironwork.com on an introduction to blacksmithing followed by stay here in Stocklinch. He was put through his paces and seemed to produce an amazing quantity and quality including a beautiful twirly whirly fire poker - could do with one of them for the firepit! Anyway, he was exhausted after all that and seemed very relieved to arrive here and chill out with his lovely lady. They did however manage a gentle mooch around the village and were fascinated by our second church sitting in the middle of a field (scene of recent sledging activity and temporary misplacement of mobile phone) and the di

#jamfirst

This week's hot topic down here in the south west is scones #jamfirst and a bit of a faux pas committed by a cornish National Trust property causing regional outrage! So staying on topic, here are my Top 5 local tea & scone stops. In Ilminster, No.57, with its slightly dickensian feel, the most amazing selection of cakes, brunch & lunch options, and vintage bric a brac to buy, this makes for a great destination. The Ilminster Arts Centre is renowned for its cheese scones and show casing our very talented local artists. At Rose Mills, on the edge of Ilminster is f.east, specialising in rocket fuel coffee, fab cakes and super tasty veggie lunches. Out at The Trading Post Farm Shop, Lopenhead

Fantastic Mr Fox of Stocklinch

Sadly the not so Fantastic Mr Fox of Stocklinch recently paid a visit to Nina's ladies...... However this weekend's visitors are not going to be deprived of their boiled eggs and soldiers as Belinda's wily old birds up at Underhill Farm are outwitting this cunning fox and have supplied delicious bantam eggs for tomorrow morning's s breakfast - thank you girls!

Snowy Stocklinch

Having the snow here in Stocklinch was truly magical! And catching my breath at the top of the sledging hill gave me a chance to take in the amazing wintery and still Somerset scenery - spectacular! No sign of any traffic on the roads, just peace and quiet and a carpet of white in every direction. Here's hoping we don't have to wait too long until this happens again - it certainly made things very special for a day or 2.....
